  • Seasonings: Feel free to substitute your favorite barbecue seasoning blend for the spices. Just be aware that many seasoning blends contain salt, so adjust the salt accordingly.
  • Barbecue sauce: Feel free to use the type of barbecue sauce that you like.

How to make Instant Pot BBQ chicken wings

Step 1: To make the wings, toss the chicken wings with the chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt and pepper together in a large bowl.

Step 2: Pour 1 cup water into the Instant Pot inner pot and place a steamer basket in the pot. Arrange the wings in the basket.

Step 3: Close and lock the lid and turn the pressure release valve to sealing. Press manual high pressure and adjust the cooking time to 5 minutes.

Step 4: When the cooking time has finished, carefully turn the pressure release valve to venting to quickly release the pressure. Carefully remove the lid

Step 5: Place a rack so it is 4 inches below the broiler element and preheat the broiler.

Step 6: Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 7: Using tongs, carefully dip each wing piece in the barbecue sauce and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 8: Broil the wings until browned and crispy on the edges, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 9: Flip with tongs and cook on the other side until browned, 3-5 minutes longer.

Step 10: Transfer the wings to a platter to serve.

Tips

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds chicken party wings separated at the joints
  • 1 teaspoon mild chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Kosher salt and black pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Instructions
 

  • To make the wings, in a large bowl, toss the chicken wings with the chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt and pepper.
  • Pour 1 cup water into the Instant Pot inner pot and place a steamer basket in the pot.
  • Arrange the wings in the basket.
  • Close and lock the lid and turn the pressure release valve to sealing. Press manual high pressure and adjust the cooking time to 5 minutes. It should take about 10-15 minutes for the Instant Pot to come to pressure.
