Tender Instant Pot pulled pork is flavorful shredded pork that is made entirely in the electric pressure cooker! This tasty shredded pork makes a great barbecue sandwich.

Instant Pot pulled pork may be the easiest way to make pulled pork! This quick prep recipe takes just minutes to get into the Instant Pot.

The pork is incredibly tender and has lots of flavor. It makes great sandwiches, but don’t stop there! It’s also delicious with mac and cheese or use it to make pulled pork pizza.

Ingredient notes and substitutions

  • Garlic powder: Be sure to use garlic powder, not salt.
  • Onion powder: Make sure you use onion powder, not onion salt.
  • Kosher salt: If using table salt, use half the amount of salt.
  • Pork shoulder: A boneless pork butt also works.
  • Apple cider vinegar: The vinegar helps to make the pork tender and the acidity adds balance.
  • Liquid smoke: Liquid smoke adds a bit of smokiness to the pork. It’s optional but tasty.
  • Barbecue sauce: Choose a barbecue sauce that you like.

How to make Instant Pot pulled pork

Step 1: Stir together the garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, ground black pepper, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. Set aside.

Step 2: Add the pork chunks to the Instant Pot inner pot.

Step 3: Pour the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke around the pork cubes.

Step 4: Sprinkle the seasoning blend over the pork.

Step 5: Close and lock the lid. Press manual high pressure and adjust the cooking time to 25 minutes.

Step 6: When the cooking time has finished, let the pressure release naturally for 20 minutes.

Step 7: Turn the pressure release valve to venting to release any remaining pressure and unlock the lid.

Step 8: Drain off all but 1 cup of the cooking liquid.

Serving suggestions

Pulled pork makes a great sandwich! Add some coleslaw on top of the pulled pork or serve it alongside baked beans, mac and cheese, or your favorite barbecue side dish for an easy and delicious meal.

Storage

Any leftover pulled pork should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The pulled pork will keep for up to 4 days when properly stored in the fridge.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 pounds boneless pork shoulder or butt cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce

Instructions
 

  • Stir together the garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, ground black pepper, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Add the pork chunks to the Instant Pot inner pot.
  • Pour the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke around the pork cubes.
