Instant Pot black beans are made from dry beans with just a few simple ingredients. They’re flavorful, versatile, and perfect for meal prep, tacos, burrito bowls, and more.
Place the beans in a large colander and rinse. You'll also want to pick through the beans and remove any stones or debris.
2 cups dried black beans
Pour the beans into the Instant Pot. inner pot.
Add the water, onion, garlic, salt, chili powder, cumin, oregano, and a generous pinch or two of black pepper.
6 cups water or vegetable broth, ⅔ cup diced white onion, 3 large garlic cloves, 2 teaspoons sea salt, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon oregano, Freshly ground black pepper
Close and lock the lid. Press manual high pressure and adjust the cooking time to 25 minutes. It should take about 10-15 minutes to come to pressure.
Once the cooking time has finished, let the Instant Pot to release pressure naturally. This will take 20-30 minutes.
Unlock and remove the lid, and give everything a good stir.
Season to taste with additional seasonings, salt, pepper, and lime juice.
Notes
Black beans: It's important to use dried black beans in the recipe.
Vegetable broth: Vegetable broth will give the beans more flavor than water will.
Lime juice: A squeeze or two of fresh lime juice really helps to brighten up the beans.
