When the Instant Pot reads "hot", add 1 tablespoon of butter.
Add half of the brats.
Brown on one side, about 2-3 minutes.
Flip the brats and brown on the other side, about 2-3 minutes.
Remove them to a plate.
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and repeat the browning with the remaining half of the brats.
Remove the remaining brats to the plate.
Pour in the beer, and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
Place a low trivet in the bottom of the pot.
Add the browned brats on top of the trivet.
Close and lock the lid. Press manual high pressure and adjust the cooking time to 8 minutes. Be sure that the pressure release valve is set to sealing.
Once the cooking time has ended, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes.
Turn the pressure release valve to venting to release any remaining pressure.
Unlock the lid and carefully remove the brats.
Notes
Brats: I use larger, 1/4-pound brats for this recipe. If you're using smaller brats, you will need to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
Beer: If you don't want to use beer, you can use apple juice or apple cider.
